Can-do student earns Horatio Alger scholarship

Cynthia Miles, principal at Fort Worth Can! – Campus Drive tells of a student for which she is especially proud.

“Carlyn M. Sayler recently won the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans National Scholarship worth $2500,” Miles said. “This scholarship recognizes students who show evidence of integrity and perseverance in the face of adversity.”

Carlyn transferred to Fort Worth Can! from Mansfield High School to find an environment in which she could succeed — and succeed she has.

Beyond earning solid grades and the Alger scholarship, Carlyn was nominated for Sparky's Kids Computers for Kids Program. After her graduation in June 2006, Carlyn planned on attending Tarrant County College and eventually transferring to the University of North Texas to major in Business and Psychology.

“We are very proud of Carlyn. She is a student leader and student role model who proves you can succeed after adversity,” said Miles.
