Houston Can! Student Soars to Success

Have you ever been so close to something you can taste it? Have you ever been on the brink of something great only to have it taken away? Tiffany Perriatt knows the feeling too well.

In 2005 Tiffany, who thought she was a graduating senior, was the star of her former high school’s track team. After completing a season full of wins, blue ribbons and medals Tiffany heard the words that all parents want their children to someday repeat: Full Scholarship.

Kansas University was ready to offer Tiffany a full athletic scholarship to their track and field program of which she would enter after he upcoming graduation. Tiffany accepted.
However, Tiffany knew that she had not met all the qualifications for graduation in the state of Texas. She had not passed the Math section of the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test. “I used to just come to school to run track, not do school work,” recalls Tiffany.

However, Tiffany remembers the day when she heard a Houston Can! Academy commercial on her favorite radio station.

Shortly thereafter, Tiffany was a student at Houston Can!, taking all of the TAKS preparation classes that were offered and even staying late for more tutoring. Tiffany said “The TAKS classes helped me form better study habits,” and “Being at Houston Can! helped me to take school more seriously.” Tiffany said she was typically a student that just did enough to get by, never trying to excel. “The teachers here made me comfortable about taking the TAKS test…the Can! has helped me succeed and move to the next level,” said Tiffany with confidence.

Tiffany started school in January 2007 and is enjoying every minute of it. She thinks back on a time where she at the end of her rope, headed down an average road. “IF I would have given up, I wouldn’t be here…I would recommend the Can! to anyone”

While she is an Early Childhood Education major at Kansas University, Tiffany will be running the 400 hurdles, and be the member of both women’s relay teams.
