Dallas Can! Academy presented their Motherhood Lifetime Achievement Award to State Senator Florence Shapiro at their 17th Annual Dallas Motherhood event Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Held at Dallas Arboretum, the luncheon, which was presented by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, annually recognizes women who exemplify family and community leadership in Dallas and benefits the students of the Dallas Can! Academies.
Senator Florence Shapiro was honored for her outstanding achievements and dedication to her family, state, and community. She has held numerous elected and volunteer leadership roles in the North Texas community and is the mother of three children and grandmother of eight grandchildren. She and her husband Howard live in Plano.
WFAA-TV’s Gloria Campos served as mistress of ceremonies, Pinnacle Technical Resources CEO Nina Vaca was honorary chair and two current Dallas Can! Demetrius Wallace and Jazelle Webb spoke about their experiences and goals for their education.
A three-course meal was enjoyed by almost 300 guests in Rosine Hall at the Dallas Arboretum while music and an inspiring video about Senator Shapiro entertained guests.
