Motherhood Luncheon Honors Carolyn Johnson

San Antonio Can! High School presented their Motherhood Lifetime Achievement Award to Civic Leader Carolyn Johnson at their 7th Annual San Antonio Motherhood event Thursday, May 20, 2010. Held at San Antonio Country Club, the luncheon, which was presented by AT&T Inc., annually recognizes women who exemplify family and community leadership in San Antonio and benefits the students at the San Antonio Can! High School.

Carolyn Johnson was honored for her outstanding achievements and dedication to both family and community. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles with several non-profit organizations in the San Antonio community. She is the mother of two sons and grandmother of four children, with a fifth grandchild on the way. Carolyn and her husband, Mark, live in San Antonio.

The San Antonio Can! High School Development Council sponsors the event and celebrates women in San Antonio who have made a positive impact in their communities and in the lives of others as volunteers, role models and mentors as well as within their own families. The Development Council is an all-volunteer group who has taken an active role in advancing the work of San Antonio Can! High School. The luncheon was hosted by San Antonio Development Council member Shari Stankey. Fellow Development Council member Jim Eskin gave opening remarks and shared updates and information about the school’s successes during the Luncheon. WOAI-TV’s news anchor, Randy Beamer served as master of ceremonies.

San Antonio Can! student Guadalupe Martinez spoke about his experiences and goals for his education. Student Aureal Estrada gave the Invocation before the luncheon began.

La’Phadra moved to Houston in October from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was behind in school because her family moved around a lot. She said she attended a lot of different schools and didn’t learn as much as she should have.
